Lyrics for Cyr by The Smashing Pumpkins:

Verse 1
Fragments form the mind
Shadows hold the mist
Fractured as this wish
Shattered I resign
We’re on the verge, we’re on the verge
Of sacred dawning and sloe-sloe eyes

Chorus
Say, I done told you
Say how I tried, too
Where you’ve wrought from creation’s crown
Say, dire warning
Stare down your masters
With the promise of one and what you are
We're on the verge

Verse 2
Tangents vex thе whorl
The void arrives, then lеaves
Returning, returning a kiss
For lovers built the dream

Chorus
Say, I done told you
Say how I tried, too
Where you’ve wrought from creation’s crown
Say, dire warning
Stare down your masters
With the promise of one and what you are
We're on the verge

Bridge
Did the times, wind
Did the crowd, kind
Aping youth, wise
Ever lost, ides
‘Midst the chaff, as meek
And those weak, as sand
Turning glass upside down
For the hours should they pass

Chorus
Say, I done told you
Say how I tried, too
Where you’ve wrought from creation’s crown
Say, dire warning
Stare down your masters
With the promise of one and what you are
We're on the verge

Outro
(We're on the verge)
We're on the verge
We're on the verge

Song Facts

“Cyr” is one half of the double A-side single speculated to appear on part two of the Shiny and Oh So Bright series. The name of the song comes from old Greek meaning “King” or “Leader.”

The song is strongly influenced by new wave and electronica. Multiple synthesizers, a steady EDM tempo held in place by the thud of a classic House kick, subtle guitar work, and layered dance vocals which sit front and center of the mix deliver a very unique aesthetic given the Pumpkin’s history.

The background vocals, performed by Sierra Swan and Katie Cole (both of whom have worked with Corgan in the past), are also very present in the mix. Swan and Cole serve more a purpose than to parrot Corgan. The singers add a heavy ambience to the track with with vocal swells and reverse reverb production effects which Corgan, who also produced the track, makes use of.
