Lyrics for Cry Me a River by Justin Timberlake:

Verse 1: Justin Timberlake
You were my sun
You were my earth
But you didn't know all the ways I loved you, no
So you took a chance
And made other plans
But I bet you didn't think that they would come crashing down, no

Pre-Chorus: Justin Timberlake
You don't have to say what you did
I already know, I found out from him
Now there's just no chance
With you and me
There'll never be
And don't it make you sad about it?

Chorus: Justin Timberlake
You told me you loved me
Why did you leave me all alone?
Now you tell me you need me
When you call me on the phone
Girl, I refuse
You must have me confused
With some other guy
The bridges were burned
Now it's your turn, to cry
Cry me a river
Cry me a river
Cry me a river
Cry me a river (Yeah, yeah)

Verse 2: Justin Timberlake
You know that they say some things are better left unsaid
It wasn't like you only talked to him and you know it
Don't act like you don't know it
And all of these things people told me
Keep messin' with my head (Messin' with my head)
Should've picked honesty
Then you may not have blown it

Pre-Chorus: Justin Timberlake
You don't have to say what you did
I already know, I found out from him
Now there's just no chance
With you and me
There'll never be
And don't it make you sad about it?

Chorus: Justin Timberlake
You told me you loved me
Why did you leave me all alone?
Now you tell me you need me
When you call me on the phone
Girl, I refuse
You must have me confused
With some other guy
The bridges were burned
Now it's your turn, to cry
So cry me a river
(Go on and just) Cry me a river
(Go on and just) Cry me a river
(Baby, go on and just) Cry me a river

Post-Chorus: Timbaland & Justin Timberlake
Oh! (Oh!) oh, the damage is done
So I guess I'll be leaving
Oh! (Oh!) oh, the damage is done
So I guess I'll be leaving
Oh! (Oh!) oh, the damage is done
So I guess I'll be leaving
Oh! (Oh!) oh, the damage is done
So I guess I'll be leaving

Bridge: Justin Timberlake
You don't have to say what you did
I already know, I found out from him
Now there's just no chance
With you and me
There'll never be
Don't it make you sad about it?

Outro: Justin Timberlake
Cry me a river
(Go on and just)
Cry me a river
(Baby, go on and just)
Cry me a river
(You can go on and just)
Cry me a river
Cry me a river
(Baby, go on and just)
Cry me a river
(Go on and just)
Cry me a river
(Come on baby, cry)
Cry me a river (don't wanna cry no more, yeah, yeah)
Cry me a river
Cry me a river
Oh, cry me a river
Oh, cry me a river
Oh, cry me a river
(Cry me, cry me)
Oh, cry me a river
(Cry me, cry me)
Oh, cry me a river
(Cry me, cry me)
Oh, cry me a river
(Cry me, cry me)
Oh, cry me a river
(Cry me, cry me)
Oh, cry me a river
(Cry me, cry me)
Oh, cry me a river
(Cry me, cry me)

Song Facts

“Cry Me a River” is Justin Timberlake’s second single from his debut studio album, Justified (2002). It was an international smash, reaching the top 5 in the US, UK, Canada and Australia (and the top 20 in several more countries overseas).

It was inspired by Timberlake’s former relationship with pop singer Britney Spears. According to Rolling Stone:

Justin Timberlake uncovered Spears' alleged affair with Wade Robson when he discovered a note in Spears' room in February 2002, on the night that the two pop stars were scheduled to appear on Saturday Night Live. Spears tried to make amends, but a shaken Timberlake refused to reconcile, and many assumed that his biting solo smash “Cry Me a River” was written about their breakup.

Spears recorded an answer song titled “Everytime” for her 2003 studio album In the Zone.

In the “Cry Me A River” music video, Timberlake’s character spies on his ex-lover and shows her the love for his new partner. Spears alleged that the video was a publicity stunt, but Timberlake maintained that she did not inspire the production. The clip won the awards for Best Male Video and Best Pop Video at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.
